The Audio Engineering, Sound Design & Music Academy is an intensive residential program that focuses highly specialized skills that are in demand for today’s music industry, as well as a variety of other media industries such as film, broadcasting, and online media.

Come explore career pathways in this exciting industry. Learn from Champlain College’s industry-expert faculty and get a head start in preparing for college.

This program is designed for:

  • Students entering grades 10–12 and recent high school graduates
  • Students who want to explore the tools and technique involved in audio engineering, sound design, and music
  • Students who want to experience what it’s like to work in this exciting industry

Get a Jump Start on College Education

In the Audio Engineering, Sound Design & Music Academy, students will:

  • Experience what it is like to study these fields in college
  • Gain insight into where their passions for career pathways in sound and audio truly are and discern which direction they would like to take as they plan for college
  • Practice music, sound editing, and audio engineering using industry-grade systems and technology
  • Learn new skills and work collaboratively with other students who are also passionate about audio engineering, sound design, and music
  • Get a head start on building their portfolio

During the program, students work closely with Champlain College professors who teach our Sonic Arts courses and have extensive expertise and professional connections in the fields of audio engineering, sound design, and music.

Program attendees will have a lot in common with their fellow students. By working together in the classroom, living together in the residence halls, and enjoying extracurricular activities, students form friendships that last far beyond the length of the Academy.

Example of a Daily Schedule

The daily program will include morning and afternoon instruction, and a combination of instruction and recreational activities in the evenings. We’ll work right through the weekend to take full advantage of the time we have together!

8:00 – 9:00 AMBreakfast and Morning Meeting
9:00 AM – 12:00 PMIndividual skill-based instruction in a computer lab environment
12:00 – 2:00 PMLunch and Recreation
2:00 – 5:00 PMHands-on group work in a professional recording studio environment
5:00 – 10:00 PMDinner and Recreation Activity or field trip to one of Vermont’s beautiful nature parks
